Nozi cashes in with winning December trot

Dec 16, 2017

NOZI Tomizawa will be hoping to continue his profitable pre-Christmas roll when he returns to Clifford Park for six rides on tomorrow's seven-race card.

The Toowoomba-based rider found himself in the national racing headlines last week following his win aboard Gold Coast mare Sylpheed ($13) for leading Queensland trainer Toby Edmonds in the Listed Just Now Quality at Doomben.

It was Tomizawa's second Brisbane winner on successive Saturdays.

Tomizawa teamed with Toowoomba trainer Tony Sears the previous week to score aboard two-year-old Ardoyne Road.

He continued his run of success on Wednesday at the Gold Coast aboard Conquering Lass for Toowoomba trainer Steve Tregea.

Tomizawa made the most of his opportunity aboard Sylpheed to retain the ride if she gains a run at next month's rich Magic Millions meeting on the Gold Coast.

Tomizawa scored his rare ride for Edmonds thanks to Sylpheed's Japan-based owner Tommy Sekiguchi who put in a request to the stable that he partner the four-year-old.

"There was a bit of pressure on and I needed to get a result on her,” Tomizawa said.

"That's why I gave that little wave at the finish.”

"Toby Edmonds has Jeff Lloyd on most of his horses and it was great to get the win and keep the Magic Millions ride if she runs.”

Tomizawa's Clifford Park book includes two rides for the Sears' stable.

"A lot of my rides look to be chances,” Tomizawa said.

"I'm riding a couple of maidens for Searsy and I'm hoping my ride in the 2000-metre race is one of the chances.”

Tomizawa partners The Cabarita Kid in the Joe Wagner Group Benchmark 60 Handicap (2000m) for Warialda trainer Leon Cross.
