Mr Epic Saves The Day

Sep 04, 2016

Under-rated Mr Epic continued to live up to his name with another commanding victory at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Mr. Epic made it four wins from his past five starts scoring a decisive 2-1/2 length win over Desert General in the Programmed Property Services Open Handicap (1600m).

Bodega Negra finished third, a further one length away.

Trainer Toby Edmonds came to Eagle Farm with two runners but was forced to send Stradbroke Handicap placegetter The Virginian straight home after he came down with a mild colic attack.

A trip to Melbourne for the Group 2 Testa Rossa Stakes at Caulfield in a fortnight is now up in the air for The Virginian.

“The Virginian is okay and it was only a mild attack,” Edmonds said.

“But it was lucky he didn’t run because he wouldn’t have raced well.

“I was going to send Mr Epic down with The Virginian to Melbourne but we’ll just see how he pulls up.

“He’s entered for the Ballina Cup on Thursday but he won’t run and will go to the paddock for a week like he normally does.

“He’s a good honest horse and it was a great effort to win.

“The owners are keen to send Mr Epic to Melbourne but we might keep him under the radar here and run him over 1600 metres next."
