Changes to Handicapping Policy - 2016/17 Season
Jul 27, 2016
The reducing weight allowance for three-year-olds and two-year-olds in handicap and plate races open to all ages for the entire season will be amended, as follows:
|Month|| 3YO Allowance
By increasing the three-year-old allowance for the first three months from 1.5kg to 2.5kg it will give trainers and stakeholders an incentive to race against the older horses should an option against their own age not present itself.
For example, middle distance races may not be prevalent in the three-year-old programs for the first three months of the season.
Horses that have staying ability could contest a BM, class or ratings based race over a middle distance and get a 2.5kg allowance.
Please note a filly would receive an additional 2kg sex allowance and two-year-olds receive an additional 1.5kg from the three-year-olds.
COUNTRY HANDICAP RACES TO HAVE A MINIMUM SPREAD OF 5KG FOR THE 2016/2017 SEASON.
Handicap races will be aligned with provincial and metropolitan handicaps and have a minimum spread of 5kg at declaration of weights.
In all regions that have a minimum of 55kg the minimum top weight will be 60kg at declaration of weights and 61kg where the minimum is 56kg.
Minimum top weights at acceptance time will relatively go up 1kg and be 59kg on a 55kg limit and 60kg on 56kg limit.
