Offers Roll In For The Virginian

Jun 15, 2016

The Virginian looks set to continue his racing career abroad after numerous offers were tabled for the exciting youngster following his excellent third placing in last Saturday's Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm.

Owner-breeder Stuart Ramsey said there had been four significant offers made for the 3YO Hinchinbrook gelding - three from overseas and one from an Australian trainer.

"He is likely to be sold in the next week," Ramsey told the Gold Coast Bulletin. "A lot of people said 'why would you start him in a Stradbroke' but we got $130,000 in prizemoney and we might get $300,000 or $400,000 more for him."

Ramsey added: "If we don't sell him he will go to the paddock and race on in the spring...but that's what we breed horses for, to sell them." Ramsey, who also bred superstar Hong Kong galloper Able Friend, said The Virginian was ahead of him at the same age.

"Whether he goes on as much as Able Friend did is another matter but he is definitely a long way in front of him at the same age," he said.
