Lesley's Choice completes another city double at Doomben
Aug 22, 2015
Lesley’s Choice completed a city double for her trainer Toby Edmonds for the second successive outing when she prevailed in a close finish at Doomben.
The daughter of Exceed And Excel formed the second leg of the Gold Coast trainer’s double on the same track on the opening day of the season before repeating the effort in the Country Music Raceday 12/9 Class 6 Plate (1200m).
Experienced jockey Jeff Lloyd stuck with Lesley’s Choice after winning on her on August 1 in which the five-year-old dropped 3.5kg under the set weights conditions of the $65,000 event.
Lloyd let Lesley’s Choice travel behind a strong early speed before the mare strode forward to chase the leaders rounding the home turn.
Lesley’s Choice hit the front at the 200m but had to withstand a determined challenge from the runner-up to get home by a nose, notching her sixth win in 18 starts and her third in her last four outings.
Young Fun started Edmonds’s double with an equally strong win in the Oatley Fine Wine Merchants NMW Handicap (1050m).
Young Fun posted his previous win in Class 4 company at the Gold Coast in September last year but took three runs to hit top fitness before tackling No Metro Win company at Doomben.
Edmonds booked apprentice Luke Dittman to ride the son of More Than Ready, who travelled perfectly behind the speed until early in the straight.
Dittman sent More Than Ready to the lead inside the 200m before the six-year-old held off all challenges in the latter stages to score a comfortable win, which was his fifth in 20 starts.
Congratulations to terrific stable supporters Segenhoe Thoroughbreds on two more wins in partnership with Toby Edmonds Racing.
