Gold On The Coast With Two Winners

Jun 15, 2014

The Toby Edmonds Racing Team headed across the road to their home track on Saturday with four runners, and the overall success of the day was excellent, achieving two winners and a very close second.

Getting the ball rolling for the team was Blue Wolf (NZ) who has only been part of the Edmonds Racing Stable for a few runs so far.

With everything going to plan, the three-year-old Stratum gelding finally put it all together and broke his maiden with a narrow, but decisive win over the 1800m of the Lloyds Online Class 1 Plate.

Ridden by apprentice Travis Wolfgram, Blue Wolf (NZ) defeated Viv’s Vegas by a long head, with two-and-a-half lengths back to Sole Illusion.

Settling close to the tail of the field, the New Zealand-bred galloper came with a well-timed run, taking victory in the shadow of the post.

Out of a half-sister to the champion galloper Mahogany, who was a Group One winner from 1000m to 2500m, Blue Wolf’s (NZ) pedigree does lean towards horses who have won over a bit of ground, but with the Stratum factor suggesting sprinter, it will be interesting to see if Blue Wolf (NZ) will be effective over further ground.

The very next race on the card saw Segenhoe Stud’s More Than Ready gelding Young Fun finish a narrow second.

Having now had three runs for the stable for a win and two second placed efforts, Young Fun is just one of a handful of runners for Segenhoe Stud in the stable that show promise!

Speaking of Segenhoe Stud, the next race of the day we saddled up Kheleyf filly Total Response (NZ) for the same connections.

Having her first run for the stable, the filly was initially trained in New Zealand before having a few runs in New South Wales.

Settling in a mid-field position for jockey Travis Wolfgram, the filly (pictured above) scored by three-quarters-of-a-length from Miamley with another length to Miss Gibraltar.

Black-typed placed early in her career, the aim with this filly would be to target further black-type and increase her value as a broodmare.

Congratulations to the connections of all our runners on Saturday at the Gold Coast.
