Edmonds Stable Phelan Ready for Magic Millions success
Dec 14, 2013
Making his racetrack debut for the Toby Edmonds Stable, two-year-old I Am Invincible colt Bassillique produced an exciting effort to claim the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes over 1010m at Doomben on Saturday, December 14.
Having had two barrier trials leading into his debut performance, the graduate of the Yarraman Park Stud draft at last year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale settled mid-field in the large group of two-year-olds before coming home to record a length victory for jockey Ric McMahon, defeating Goluana and Boom Box.
With plenty of improvement left in him, a massive congratulations must go to the owners of this exciting Magic Millions-bound colt; Mr S J Heavey, Mr P W Lewis, Mr G W Jacques, Mr M Hall, Mr B E Johnson, Ms V W Lee, Mr M R Sutherland, Mr J F Cahill, Mr G W Mitchell, Mr G C Diamond, Mr P Cleaver, Mr L J Scott, Mr P J Neilsen, Mr N H Stedman, Mr J D Handley, Mr T N Edmonds, Mrs M J Egar, Mr L W Ralph and Yarraman Park Stud.
Purchased for $160,000, the impressive looking colt (pictured earlier today) is from the first crop of his sire and is out of the five-time winning Langfuhr mare Sacred Hill, a half-sister to the Listed winner Pottinger as well as Suggestive, the dam four stakes winners; Group One winner Sky Cuddle, Group Two winner Highly Recommended, Group Three winner Sky Love and the recent Listed winner Undeniably.
Trained earlier in his career by Toby Edmonds Racing, I Am Invincible won by five lengths on his debut as a two-year-old, before finishing third in the Group Three Kindergarten Stakes at his second start behind eventual Group One Golden Slipper winner Forensics.
An exciting speedster, I Am Invincible won five times from 13 starts highlighted by victory in the Listed Sir Monash Stakes as well as a second place behind Takeover Target in the Group One Goodwood Handicap in Adelaide.
After his purchase as a yearling Edmonds’ commented that the colt was, “the pick of the I Am Invincible’s from Yarraman, looks just like his dad did as a yearling."
What made the day even more memorable for consignor Yarraman Park is they not only stand Bassillique’s Group winning sire I Am Invincible, but literally two hours prior, the stallion had recorded his first winner with I Am The General saluting in Melbourne.
With four winners from his last six runners, the Toby Edmonds Stable would have one of the best strike rates of any trainer in the country with an impressive strike rate of almost 30% winners to runners.
