Winners just keep coming…
Nov 25, 2013
With a winning strike rate of 28.91%, better than the likes of Chris Waller, Peter Snowden, Peter Moody, Gai Waterhouse, John O’Shea, Tony McEvoy, David Hayes, Anthony Cummings, in fact taking a look through the top 60 trainers on winners in Australia, no trainer has a better winning strike rate, Gold Coast-based Toby Edmonds produced another winner.
Siegfried, a three-year-old gelding by Jet Spur broke his maiden on Saturday when contesting the KPMG Sunshine Coast Maiden Plate over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast after having finished second on debut two weeks prior at the Gold Coast.
Starting favourite in the nine horse field based on his excellent debut performance where he was a little green and raced wide, still managing to finish second, the three-year-old show significant improvement to defeat Thomas The Tank by one-and-a-half lengths with a further two-and-a-quarter lengths to the third place Ice Cream Girl.
Out of the winning St Covet mare Classic Covet, a half-sister to the four-time American Listed winner Affirmed Classic (dam of dual Group Three winner Mystery Storm) as well as Classic Star, the dam of the Listed Fernhill Handicap winner Likefatherlikeson, Siegfried comes from a very “winning” family with the first three dams having produced 25 winners from 27 to race.
Owned by a large group of owners; A J Chigwidden, J L Hiron, R Torossi, S J Gray, G M Lever, M M Clingly, C M Thompson, D M Firth, P G Jones, G J Caisley, A G Warian & Diceridge Pty Ltd (Mgr: Mrs J P Aspinall), the three-year-old is one of six winners trained by the stable so far this month from just 11 runners.
Currently sitting in 36th position Australia wide for the number of winners trained this season, that in itself a stellar achievement for the small stable consider that the 18½ winners were achieved from a considerably smaller group of horses to many of the trainers above him.
