Cup day Double on the Coast
Nov 07, 2013
Toby Edmonds once again produced the goods on his home track, recording a race double with Our Zidane and Batten The Hatches off the back of his last five runners recording three wins and two third placed efforts.
In fact from the last 30 races the Toby Edmonds runners have contested (Sept 1st - Nov 5th), the runners have recorded 10 wins and have finished in the top five on a remarkable 25 times – clearly outlining the class and talent the stable currently possess.
Contesting the second race on the card, the RBC Business Solutions Maiden Handicap after having finished third first-up a week-and-a-half prior, the three-year-old Zizou gelding broke his maiden by a neck from Snapcrackle with a further four-and-a-quarter lengths to Grandkids Rock.
Raced by a large group of owners; S J Heavey, C S Mcintyre, S P Delzoppo, G W Jacques, D R Brell, Miss M D Kleber, P P Alafaci, B K Warters, T Marlin, P J Neilsen, Smart Move Home Loans Pty Ltd Syn(Mgr: D R Brell), Stapello Racing Syn(Mgr: S Degetto), Our Zidane (pictured below as a yearling), who was ridden by Matthew Palmer, was having his sixth career start for his first win.
Four races later, new stable acquisition Batten The Hatches was having his first start for the stable off the back of a barrier trial win, in the Gold Coast City Council Class Three over 900m.
Having been previously trained in South Australia where the Alannan gelding had won three times from 13, the recent trial win indicated that the Wade Alexander owned gelding would run extremely well, but maybe the distance would be slightly too short.
Settling back in the field, the Rikki Jamieson-ridden gelding came with a well-timed run to snatch victory from Kempelly by a short half head, taking his record to four wins.
Congratulations to Batten The Hatches (pictured below post race) on such a great effort after so long away from the races.
