Gold Coast double takes Edmonds to the lead
Oct 28, 2013
With a double on Saturday at his home track, the Gold Coast Turf Club, the Toby Edmonds Stable went to the lead in the 2013-14 GCTC Trainer’s Premiership.
With four runners on the day, the stable walked away with two winners and two third placed performances, a great result for all concerned.
Getting the ball rolling in Race 3 was the three-year-old Zizou gelding Our Zidane. Ridden by Matthew Palmer, the gelding finished a very good third, beaten one-and-three-quarters lengths first up off the back of a nice trial win recently.
Pictured below parading before the race, the gelding was only having his first run back this time in and the 1300m was a little too short for him. He will be much better suited over further ground and once he gets into his prep a little more.
The next race of the day saw Palmer back in action for the stable, ridding the three-year-old Red Dazzler filly Red Diamonds over the 1100m.
Having finished a half-length second on debut back in September, the Mrs R L Turnbull, Ms M A Blayden, Mrs W P Amerio & Mrs K A Synott–owned filly (connections above left) travelled to Doomben and the 1200m where she just didn’t appear to run out the trip.
Back to the 1100m on her home track, the Red Diamonds (below with blinkers) sat mid-field before making her run to get up and break her maiden, recording a long neck victory over Awesome Sight.
With the two final members of the team both starting in Race 6, it was the last start winning Duelled gelding Duelled Force who produced the goods, defeating Gully Command, by three-quarters-of-a-length with the stable mate of the winner Gundy Gal a further length back behind in third.
Raced by Miss R B Flynn, R J Howlett, B Srmoj, S J Costa, J Fekete & C E Barkworth, the talented four-year-old (pictured below) has now recorded two impressive wins from three races and looks a very promising horse in the making. Having only had two of those three starts with the Edmonds Stable, the 100% win record is a great achievement!
