Forceful victory for Duelled gelding

Oct 16, 2013

Heading to the races for only his second career start, Duelled Force broke through for his first win on Saturday, October 12 in the Penrite Coolants Maiden Plate over 1400m at his home track.

Starting the dominate race favourite at 6/4 first-up, off the back of a recent barrier trial third placing, the four-year-old gelded son of Duelled was dragged across from a wide barrier to settle midfield in the eleven horse field.

Urged along by the Group Three-winning jockey Matthew Palmer, Duelled Force ambled up to the leaders on the point of the home turn and dashed away, winning by four-and-a-half lengths, with plenty in hand.

Trained at the Gold Coast by Toby Edmonds, Duelled Force appreciated the rise in distance from his debut performance, where he finished ninth at Doomben over an unsuitable 1200m.

By the Group Two AAMI Vase winner Duelled, who also placed in the Group One VRC Derby, Duelled Force is out of Zigzag Lane, an unraced daughter of the Group One AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Align.

A half-sister to Pedante, the dam of dual Listed winner Taamer, who is in turn the dam of the Listed-winning, Group Three placed Bulbula, Zigzag Lane’s pedigree also includes the Group One New Zealand Oaks winner She’s Country and her Group Three-winning daughter She Rules.

Sure to take great benefit from his maiden win, Duelled Force is a big, gangly gelding who will come to appreciate longer trips as he continues to mature as is indicative of his pedigree.

The gelding will be a horse to follow across the Sunshine State in months to come and the Toby Edmonds Stable would like to congratulate his owners; Miss R B Flynn, R J Howlett, B Srmoj, S J Costa, J Fekete & C E Barkworth, on the exciting victory and for his future race career.
