Double on the Coast

Sep 28, 2013

Saddling up three runners on Saturday at our home track, the Toby Edmonds stable walked away with two very good winners and a third placed performance in what was a great day for the team.

The first of the runners at the track was the Ramsey Pastoral Company Pty Ltd (Mgr: S B Ramsey)-owned four-year-old Rock Of Gibraltar mare Quick Witted.

Having won on debut for the stable four starts back, the mare was slightly unlucky at her second start before bouncing back at the Gold Coast with a four length demolition of her rivals.

On Saturday she contested the East Coast Lawyers Handicap (Class 2) over 1800m and once again produced an excellent effort to salute, this time by three-quarters-of-a-length from Back To Abilene, with a further two lengths to the third placed Dazzle Me Red.

Quick Witted is out of the Marauding mare Haywire, a full-sister to Group One winner Drum, as well as the stakes placed Tambour, who is in turn the dam of multiple Group One winner Grand Armee.

Haywire is also a three-quarter sister to Hong Kong Champion Sprinter Genius And Evil, as well as the Group One South Australian Oaks winner Anamato and the Listed winner Port Watch. Other stakes winners in the family include Group One Rosehill Guineas winner Dealer Principal and they Group Three Newcastle J.C. Spring Stakes winner Mearas.

The win was her third from four starts, and the mare looks to be a great prospect going forward and we are really excited to see how far she can go.

The very next race on the card saw the Private Agenda four-year-old Linville finish third, beaten one-and-three-quarter lengths. With places at his last two starts, it won’t be long before the Mrs D M Edmonds, G C Diamond & G J Diamond-owned gelding is back in the winner’s circle.

Four-year-old Aussie Rules mare Gundy Gal (pictured) was racing first up in the very next race, the Qld Marine Centre Hcp (Class 1) over 1200m, and she produced the goods, taking the race by a long neck margin from Like A Bird, with a further two-and-a-quarter lengths to the third horse, Beebee’s Last.

Having only had five starts for the Toby Edmonds’ stable, the grey mare has finished in the top three at four of those five starts.

Raced by P W Lewis, G W Jacques, J D Handley, R B McCrory & N H Stedman, the mare will appreciate further as she gets into her preparation, and coming from the family of Singapore Champion 2YO & 3YO Better Than Ever who managed to win up to 1800m, this mare could be a very good miler as she matures a little more.

The Toby Edmonds yard would like to congratulate all of their owners and thank them for their continued support.
