Mossman mare Gwenth Jean a Gold Coast winner
Sep 02, 2013
Having her first start for the Toby Edmonds Racing stable, four-year-old Mossman mare Gwenth Jean took benefit from a recent barrier trial win at her home track, to head to the races and record her maiden victory at only her second start.
Having not raced since April where she finished seventh, beaten three lengths over the unsuitable trip of 900m, the mare started first-up on Saturday over the 1100m of the Form Line Maiden Plate for fillies and mares.
Settling just off the leaders in the 11 horse field, the Dayle Greves-owned mare went on to take the race by one-and-a-half lengths from Sylvia May with a head margin to Rol’n Robi, who had started the race favourite. Ridden by Chris Whiteley, the race time of 1:04.65 was a class record.
The combination of Whiteley and Edmonds combined in the race prior with the Segenhoe Stud-owned Spurs And Sashes (pictured below) who finished second, beaten by a head.
With Segenhoe Stud a new client for Edmonds Racing, we are all very excited to have the opportunity to train for such a high profile and leading breeder within the Australian industry, and we would like to thank Kevin Maloney, Segenhoe Stud’s Chairman.
Congratulations to the connections of both of these four-year-old mares, and we are keen to watch both of them improve even further in the near future.
