Continually Chipp’n Away results in back to back wins

Aug 27, 2013

After dead-heating at the Gold Coast over 1300m, the Flying Spur gelding Chipp’n Away headed to The Doctor Handicap over 1400m at Eagle Farm where he settled in third position before proving too good, recording victory, defeating Tail And All by a head with a nose margin to Powerful Jet, the horse who he had dead-heated with the start prior at the Gold Coast.

Ridden by leading Queensland jockey Jim Byrne, Chipp’n Away was having his seventh run of his current campaign, and although he has had a few weeks off here and there during that time, he has now been up since April, so is a testament to his constitution and the individual training methods applied to him by Toby Edmonds.

Now a winner of seven races from 39 starts with a further 12 placed efforts, Chipp’n Away is a model of consistency for the Toby Edmonds Stable.

Closely related to multiple Group One winner Shogun Lodge and his Group One winning half-brothers Singing The Blues and Referral, Chipp’n Away’s recent victory over 1400m was his first win beyond 1300m, and while his pedigree suggest he may get a little further, it is likely that 1300m to 1400m will prove his best distance going forward.

Congratulations to the connections of Chipp'n Away, and we look forward to his next start.
