The War Ends at Grafton

Jul 09, 2013

After being the second leg of a stable double last week at Grafton, Redoute’s Choice gelding War Ends heads back to the 'scene of the crime' on Wednesday to contest the $150,000 Listed Ramornie Handicap over 1200m.

Winning over the 1215m of the John Carlton Quality with Bobby El-Issa in the saddle last time out, War Ends drops back ever so slightly to the 1200m, a distance he has recorded three previous victories over.

Leading throughout with 56.5kg on his back to record a length victory over Ideal Victory with a further length-and-three-quarters back to Dinky Mink, War Ends looks ideally placed on the limit of 54kgs in Grafton’s premier sprint contest.

With Glen Colless set to ride the six-year-old in the Ramornie, War Ends will jump from barrier 11 after the scratching of a runner on his inside.

Racing against a star-studded line up that includes stakes performers Howmuchdoyouloveme, Adebisi, Youthful Jack, Soledad and Border Rebel, War Ends is going up against some stiff opposition, but with the likelihood of a rain-affected track, the G J Holden, S J Parker, Ms V W Lee, Dr C B Daly, J P Wood, Dr F W Howes, G H Denniston & G L Atkinson-owned galloper does look a good each-way chance as he has some previous form on wet tracks.

A winner up to 1800m when previously trained in Victoria, War Ends has been restricted mainly to sprinter-miler type races since transferring to the Gold Coast stable of Toby Edmonds, and the gelding has excelled, recording nine top three finishes from 17 starts in the Sunshine state.

Best of luck to the connections of War Ends, and we know if he salutes at Grafton, that the celebrations could go well into the night!
