Dolphus staying put…
Jun 07, 2013
Having only had three runs for the Toby Edmonds stable after transferring from a NSW-based stable, a decision by the current owner of 3yo Dylan Thomas filly Dolphus was made to sell the filly through the Magic Millions National Racehorse Sale on June 7.
Taken with her three runs to date under his care, Edmonds went to the sale with the intention to purchase the filly back - and he did, going to $44,000 to secure the 3yo.
Fourth in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet two starts back behind Express Power after travelling wide for a portion of the race, the filly headed to the Doomben for the Group Three The Roses and after suffering some interference in the run she finished back in the field behind Dear Demi and last week’s G1 Queenland Oaks winner Gondokoro.
Bred by Stuart Ramsey’s Ramsey Pastoral Co Pty Ltd, the filly is from the first Australian-bred crop of Danehill’s Group One Prix de l’Arc Triomphe winner Dylan Thomas, the sire of 21 stakes performers highlighted by G1 horses Tannery, Furner’s Green and Nymphea.
Dolphus is the second foal from the American-bred Royal Academy mare Long Ball, a winner over 1200m in the USA and from the family of stakes winners Talloires, Will Dancer, Face Nord, Wind Symbol and Exegese.
It is interesting to note that Dolphus is bred on the exact same Danehill x Royal Academy pedigrgee cross that has resulted in Group One winner Nashville, Group Two winner Majestic Music as well as Group Three winners Aslana, Caribbean Sunset and Damselfly, while it is also a very similar pedigree cross to the one that produced Champion racehorse and sire Fastnet Rock.
Having record six placed efforts to date, the future for this filly looks bright as she has now been sent to the paddock to strength up before her next campaign.
