Mile does the trick for Linville

Dec 02, 2012

Smart three-year-old Linville relished the jump to a mile for the first time with a dominant win in the Noosa Civic TAB Maiden (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast.

Linville started his spring campaign over 1200 metres before the gelding struck a solid vein of form when he stepped up to 1400 metres for his next three starts.

Trainer Toby Edmonds decided that 1600 metres would suit the son of Private Agenda before Linville proved his judgement correct with an outstanding performance.

Damian Browne took the ride on Linville at the Sunshine Coast.

The Group 1-winning rider gave Linville time to balance midfield while strong early tempo prevailed for the first third of the $10,000 race.

The speed slowed a touch midrace but Linville travelled perfectly for Browne before the jockey asked his mount to improve from the 600 metres.

Linville worked through his gears well to be within two lengths of the lead at the 300 metres before the gelding showing his abundant staying promise by attacking the line late to score an impressive three-length win.

Linville earned a $6500 winner's purse for his terrific success but the manner of his win showed there was plenty more in store for the promising galloper.

Congratulations to Linville’s owners - Mrs D M Edmonds, G C Diamond & G J Diamond.
