Vaarwel home easily at Doomben

Nov 21, 2012

Well-bred gelding Vaarwel enhanced his already solid record for Toby Edmonds Racing with his comfortable success at Doomben.

Vaarwel raced as part of the Patinack Farm team earlier in his career but has come into his own since Edmonds took over his training late last year.

The Flying Spur six-year-old recorded his third win from eight starts for Edmonds with his dominant performance in the www.brc.com.au Handicap (1010m).

Leading jockey Chris Munce resumed his partnership with Vaarwel after riding him two starts back when fourth at the Gold Coast. Munce produced his customary textbook ride to get Vaarwel home.

Vaarwel’s early speed helped Munce position him behind the early leader before the jockey sent his mount forward to improve from the 400 metres.

Vaarwel’s neat acceleration ensured he had the race in his keeping when Munce asked him for an effort at the 300 metres before he went to the line strongly to score convincingly by a length.

Vaarwel’s hails from a terrific family, which includes Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) winner Eagle Falls and stakes performers Gai’s Choice, The Golden Dane and Dan De Lago while his dam Presina also won three stakes races while in the care of the late champion trainer Bruce McLachlan.

Congratulations to Vaarwel’s owners - D L Streten, T J O'Sullivan, J A O'Sullivan, M J Halle, D Love, G D Patounas, G Kouvidis, Mrs D M Edmonds, W B Paxton & S M Cusick.
